What A4 does to the design
Size changes how the three lines should be written. At A4 the viewer is under a metre away, so the wanted-for line can carry a longer, more specific joke — the sort that needs eight words rather than four. The face is roughly the size of a passport photo, which suits a tight head-and-shoulders crop and punishes group shots. And the reward at the foot of the sheet stays legible even at small type, so a precise absurd number reads better than a round one.
